At Edweb Media, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and safeguard your personal data when you use our website (edwebmedia.com) or services.

Who is responsible for your information

Edweb Media (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2025/928202/07, of 71 6th Avenue, Boston, Bellville, Cape Town, 7530, is responsible for your personal information. Our Information Officer, registered with the Information Regulator, is Edgar Ramsauer: info@edwebmedia.com, 084 620 4583. Our PAIA manual explains which records we keep and how to ask for them.

1. Information we collect

We may collect and process the following types of information.

1.1 Personal information you provide

When you fill out forms, contact us or use our services, we may collect:

• Name
• Email address
• Phone number
• Business name

1.2 Automatically collected data

When you visit our website, our visitor counter records, for each page view:

• The page you opened
• The website that sent you, for example a search engine
• Your country
• Your browser and device type
• How quickly the page loaded

It does not record who you are. Section 4 explains how it works.

1.3 Cookies and tracking technologies

This website sets no cookies and uses no advertising or tracking technology. For more details, refer to Section 4.

1.4 Payment information

When you make a payment, it is processed by our payment gateway, Payfast (Pty) Ltd. Your card details are entered directly on Payfast's secure checkout. Edweb Media does not collect, see or store your full card details. We receive confirmation of the payment together with your name and contact details so we can identify and manage your order or subscription.

2. How we use your information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes: to provide and improve our services, to respond to your enquiries or requests, to comply with legal obligations, and to count visits to our pages.

3. Legal basis for processing (POPIA)

We process your personal information on the following grounds, as section 11 of POPIA allows.

4. Cookies and visitor counting

Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. This website sets none: no advertising cookies, no tracking cookies and no analytics cookies. That is why there is no cookie banner.

4.1 How we count visits

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a service of Cloudflare, Inc. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and does not identify you or follow you to other websites. It records only the details listed in Section 1.2, and we see totals, such as the number of visits in a month.

4.2 Storage in your browser

If you use the chat or choose a package, your browser keeps that for the open tab only, so it is still there on the next page. The chat's greeting also notes there that it has already shown, so it does not pop up again on every page. All of it is deleted when you close the tab and is never used to identify or track you.

The demo sites under edwebmedia.com/demos are made-up examples of our work. Some keep their sample settings or basket in your browser's local storage, which stays until you clear your browser data, and some show a Google map.

4.3 Fonts

The main website serves its typefaces, Host Grotesk and Libre Franklin, from our own server, so opening one of its pages sends nothing to Google. The demo sites under edwebmedia.com/demos still load their typefaces from Google Fonts: there your browser asks Google for the font files, so Google receives your IP address and browser type, as with any page you open. Google Fonts sets no cookies.

4.4 The chat

If you type in the chat, your messages go to our own server and from there to Anthropic, which runs the language model that writes the replies, so Anthropic processes the words of that conversation. If you leave your name and phone number, they are emailed to us together with the conversation. To stop misuse, the chat's server reads your internet (IP) address to limit how many messages one connection can send in ten minutes; our code keeps that address only in the server's working memory and never stores it. The rest of the website works without the chat.

5. Your rights (POPIA)

Under POPIA, you have the following rights regarding your personal information. We also offer the restriction and portability rights below.

6. Data sharing and transfers

We do not sell, trade or rent your personal information to third parties. However, we may share data with the parties below.

6.1 Service providers

To run the business we use these service providers, and some of them handle your information: Vercel (hosts this website), Hostinger (carries our email and hosts some client websites), Cloudflare (counts visits), Anthropic (runs the chat on this website, and Claude, the AI assistant we use to build and look after websites, which can read project files and client records while we work), Microsoft (OneDrive, where we keep business records and project notes, and GitHub, where website code is kept), Google (our Google account and Business Profile, and the demo sites' fonts and map), Meta (messages we exchange on WhatsApp), Magnific (social media images we make from clients' own photos) and Firecrawl (research on the public websites of businesses we may contact).

6.2 Legal authorities

When required by law or for legal protection.

6.3 Payment processing

When you make a payment, we share the details needed to process it, such as your name, email address and the amount, with our payment gateway Payfast (Pty) Ltd. Payfast processes your card details securely on their own systems as a PCI DSS compliant payment service provider, under their own privacy policy, available at payfast.io.

6.4 Information that leaves South Africa

Vercel, Cloudflare, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google, Meta and Firecrawl are United States companies, Hostinger is based in Cyprus and Magnific in Spain, both in the European Union. So every form you send, every chat message you type, our email, our business records and the visit counter's records are processed outside South Africa. Each of these services holds it under its own published privacy terms. If you would rather your information did not leave the country, call us on 084 620 4583 instead of using the forms or the chat. WhatsApp is run by Meta, so it is outside South Africa too.

7. Data retention

We retain personal data only as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this policy or to comply with legal obligations.

8. Data security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data from unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. However, no online system can be completely secure.

9. Third-party links

Our website may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these external sites. Please review their privacy policies independently.

10. Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. Revisions will be posted on this page with the updated date.
