Accredited orchards
Condition starts before anything is picked. A grower joins only after we have walked the farm, read the last audit and seen a season's packout, and the accreditations European and UK buyers expect as a baseline are set out here. SIZA is the South African programme for that, covering ethical labour practice alongside an environmental standard built on four areas: soil health, water management, energy and waste, and biodiversity.
- Who audits
- SIZA, the Sustainability Initiative of South Africa
- Social side
- Ethical labour practice, checked against local law and beyond it
- Environmental side
- Soil health, water, energy and waste, biodiversity
- Related standard
- GLOBALG.A.P., the standard for South African fruit sold to export and national retail
- Efficiency
- SIZA holds equivalency agreements with GLOBALG.A.P. and LEAF Marque, so one audit can satisfy more than one buyer requirement
