Kloofvale Fruit 023 316 482

Fruit defined by flavour & relevance.

A Ceres packer and exporter of cherries, stone fruit, apples and pears, working with growers from the Koue Bokkeveld to the Langkloof.

Who we are

We started as one packhouse and a handful of growers who wanted to sell their own fruit, not hand it to a broker and hope.

Kloofvale works with growers we know by name, most of them within two hours of the packhouse. Between them they grow cherries, apricots, peaches, nectarines, plums, pluots, apples and pears, from cultivars buyers have trusted for decades to ones still proving themselves. We walk the breeders' trial blocks every season, so we know what is coming before the buyers ask.

Our growers

Selection is not a handshake. South African fruit bound for European and UK buyers is audited against a defined set of standards, and these are the ones that govern it.

The social standard
SIZA, the South African programme for ethical labour practice, checked against local law and beyond it
The environmental standard
Soil health, water management, energy and waste, and biodiversity
The global standard
GLOBALG.A.P., the baseline for South African fruit sold to export and national retail
One audit, several buyers
SIZA holds equivalency agreements with GLOBALG.A.P. and LEAF Marque, so a single audit can satisfy more than one requirement
Export registration
PPECB, compulsory for every South African exporter of perishable produce
Our spread
Nine growing areas, from Prince Alfred Hamlet in the Warm Bokkeveld to the Langkloof on the Eastern Cape border

Where we grow

Nine growing areas across the Western Cape and into the Eastern Cape, each picked for what it does differently. Chill in the mountains, dry heat in the Karoo, a long valley on the coast. Pick one to see what it contributes.

Prince Alfred Hamlet

Warm Bokkeveld, Western Cape

A fruit village 10km north of Ceres on the R303, sitting in the Warm Bokkeveld valley below the Gydo Pass. The pass is the dividing line: warmer-climate deciduous fruit grows on this side of it, apples and pears on the cold side. Peaches, pears and plums packed here ship to markets worldwide, and the village runs as a packing and distribution point through the season.

Sits in
Warm Bokkeveld, below the Gydo Pass
Known for
Peaches, pears and plums
Character
Warmer valley floor, earlier than the Koue Bokkeveld
Role
Packs and distributes through the season

Adding value at every stage

The grower knows what the buyer paid, and the buyer knows which block the fruit came from. That is the whole arrangement.

The people behind every carton

Trust & transparency

Growers see the market price and the packout report, not just a cheque.

Market relevance

We know which cultivars a buyer in each market will take, and which ones they will not.

Consistent quality

Fruit from early and late areas, so a buyer's programme can run from October to May.
